Filming

How I found using the equipment?
During the filming of our piece I felt confident using all the equipment, we used a variety of different equipment to enhance our filming, we used a tripod, dolly and then in the hand. Using the tripod I found it easy to remember where to put the camera and how to adjust the height and angle of the camera. The dolly was used when tracking the female character walking down the hall, I felt comfortable with moving the camera at the same time as the character so they didn’t go in and out of shot, the problem with one of our shots was that we had to film a low angle shot of the characters feet walking, this was over come by attaching the camera to the dolly and moving it along with our hands, this took two members of my group as one had to push whilst the other pushed to get a smooth shot. I struggled with holding the camera in my hand as it constantly went shaky, I over came this troubles by holding the camera with two hands to increase stability.

What problems i faced and why?

During our first piece of filming we encountered issues with the actors, we had asked one person to be in our piece but on the day of filming they did not turn up, this meant we had to use a member of our group, this meant that we had lost another persons point of view but gained one from a actors perspective. Due to the piece not coming out how we planned we had to re film, i was not upset about this as I thought it would give us a chance to show that we can improve in a matter of days. We did struggle with some aspects of filming, we film a low tracking shot of the characters feet, the corridor we had to use was too narrow which meant that shot was jumpy and we could not keep up with the character as well as we had hoped. During our re film the script was change quite a bit due to actors not learning their lines, this wasn’t a problem as it made it seem more realistic.

Did i have to change anything whilst filming?

During the filming of our second preliminary task we had to change actors, as we found out that the first recording didn’t flow we also changed the script, if you see our storyboard and our finished piece you can see how we changed a lot of the aspects of the film to make it smoother through out but still kept to the same theme. During the second filming we changed the angles of the cameras, we kept to the 180 degree rule but it created a different mood throughout the piece.

Did I have I have to re film any thing? What? why?

We had to re-film our entire piece, this was because as we had left some shots out we thought about just re shooting some shots, in the end we decided that it would be best to start again as it would seem jumpy and would be able to see the difference in times of filming. During the re-film we added more scenes and more shots which enhanced the drama and made it longer to meet requirements.

Did my group feel fully prepared for filming?  How did i prepare?

We didn’t have to prepare much for our filming, we collected all the props we needed before filming, then we emptied the room out as much as we could, the added the sign on the door to make it darker and sinister in the room. The feel of the second filming was allot more prepared and confident then with the first recording were no one was completely sure of what shots would look best, after the failure of the first filming we all knew what we had to do and it shows.
How did my group work together?

what did i enjoy most about when filming?

During the making of this piece I most enjoyed the editing process, I liked being able to get different shots and put them together to make a smooth transition. I also enjoyed the filming allot as we could experiment with different shots and angles but the editing side has opened my eyes to different careers and how intricate work is on major films. During the filming I tried to give ideas as much as i could and be involved allot, but whilst doing this I didn’t want to say that my ideas were better then others, so as a group we made the decisions, I enjoyed filming with this group.

How did the group work together?

I felt that this group worked well when under pressure, for example the second filming was under pressure as we had to film it perfectly that day, it came out very well as everyone was serious with their roles and ideas. The only problem I found with this group was during the preparation, I thought that some members of the group did not put in all their effort and only did what was needed but went no further, this is why our first script was under par. We over came this issues during the filming and editing and in the end I enjoyed working with this group but I don’t feel like I should continue with this group as we are all good friends it felt like a sociable event and not a work event.

Storyboard

Ideas, Description including exam board criteria

In my group we mind mapped different themes that would allow us to use all of the exam board criteria, the idea we went with was a investigation film. The story line was a man trapped in a room, he tied up to a chair and a smartly dressed woman walks toward the room, then enters, she interrogates him over the secrets he knows. This is set in a school location in a dark room to give the sense of despair. We used a wide variety of shots, these included, Mid shot, Long shot, Close up, Dutch angle, low shot, tracking shot and zooming in and out. During this filming we incorporated the 180 degree rule, match on action and shot reverse shot.
